Learn about the paper-making process, forest sustainability, company innovation, and more. For safety, all visitors must be at least 16. Pants, a shirt with sleeves, and closed-toe shoes required. A meal at the Lions Club’s popular barbecue includes one half barbecued chicken, coleslaw, chips, a roll and butter, bottled water, and a whoopie pie. Ticket price $10.

Classic Car Cruise-In

Classic, restored, and modified cars from the area will be on display.

Museum after Hours: Remembering Locke’s Tavern
5-7 p.m., Skowhegan History House
Museum Director Melvin Burnham will lead a discussion about historic Locke’s Tavern, a local landmark destroyed by fire in February. The discussion will center on the role Locke’s Tavern played in the community’s history and the stories and legends surrounding the 1811 tavern.

Skowhegan Community Band Concert

The Skowhegan Community Band will play the classics.

Hosted by the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce, this popular event includes kids’ activities provided by Skowhegan Parks and Rec, live music under the Big Top, numerous vendors, and the famous bed races (see below).

Hosted by Skowhegan Parks and Rec, teams of five compete head to head by pushing beds on caster wheels down Water Street. Fill out this registration form or register at Moonlight Madness under the tent until 6:30 p.m. For ages 14 and up.

Skowhegan Rotary Club Lobster Bake

Lobster, hamburgers, and hotdogs will be available. Each meal comes with corn, coleslaw, a roll, dessert, and a drink. Prices are as follows: single lobster meal $15; twin lobster meal $25; hamburger meal $8; hotdog meal $5. Drivers and Duffers Golf Classic

This golf classic is put on by the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce. Registration includes one round of 18 holes, one ticket for a lobster dinner, and one player’s portion of a cart. Click here for the registration form.

Glow Stick River Run

Paddlers are equipped with glow sticks for a visually compelling experience. Registration fee is $5 and includes glow sticks. Register at the Skowhegan Community Center (39 Poulin Dr., 207-474-6901), and bring your own gear. Some canoes and kayaks will be available for those who wish to borrow.

Raft Rides
10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m., Kennebec River Gorge
Moxie Outdoor Adventures sponsors free rafting rides! Organized by Skowhegan Parks and Rec, these rides are sure to be a memorable adventure. Sign up at the Skowhegan Rec tent near the climbing wall; rides are on a first-come, first-served basis until full. For ages 5 and up.

Games and More Family Fun
2-5 p.m., Island Dairy Treat parking lot
Presented by Island Dairy Treat, this event will include activities such as making your own worms in the garden. Island Dairy Treat will also offer sundaes for $3 each and hot dogs for $1 each.

Run of River Support Paddle
1-3 p.m., Kennebec River downtown
Paddlers from all over the state will paddle in support of Run of River, providing a preview of how people will use Run of River’s whitewater park.

River Slalom Demo
1-3 p.m., Kennebec River downtown
Paddlers will provide a demonstration of a slalom event, maneuvering through gates strung over the river, similar to a downhill ski slalom.

Paddle Board Rentals
1-3 p.m., Kennebec River downtown
The Wesserunsett Paddle Club will have a paddle board display and paddle boards to rent.

Move More Kids Day Activities
1-4 p.m., Municipal Parking Lot
Presented by the New Balance Foundation and Somerset Public Health, Move More Kids Day includes activities such as hula hooping, relay races, an obstacle course, and more.

Story Walk
1:30 and 2:30 p.m., starting from the Skowhegan Chamber
Somerset Public Health and the Move More Kids Program will offer this story walk combining physical activity with literacy. Meet at the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce on Commercial Street and walk to Island Dairy Treat for a reading of Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. The story walk will also be available to walk at your leisure all afternoon. Families welcome.

Brewery Tour
5 p.m., starting from Bloomfield’s Tavern
A shuttle will take attendees to local breweries Oak Pond Brewing Co. and Bigelow Brewing Co. The shuttle will start boarding at 4:30, with a 5 p.m. departure. During the tour Skowhegan Savings Bank will have a drawing for two VIP tickets to the Skowhegan Craft Brew Festival on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017. Must be 21 or older to attend.
