The Kennebec River Ramble

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13th

All Day Event | Kennebec River from Cleaver Landing in Skowhegan to the Hinckley Boat Landing
Main Street Skowhegan is excited to host our third Kennebec River Ramble event, in partnership with our friends at the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce. Ramble Schedule

  • 8 a.m. Check in at Hinckley Boat Launch (Route 201/Route 23, Hinckley)
  • 8-9 a.m. Coffee & Breakfast sponsored and provided by The Bankery 
  • 9 a.m. Shuttle & boat trailer to Cleaver Landing in Skowhegan sponsored by Redington-Fairview General Hospital
    • Skowhegan Outdoors staff will be shuttling boats and people to the put-in; leave your car in Hinckley for ease of access when you return
  • 10 a.m. Launch from Cleaver Boat Landing (Route 2, Skowhegan)
  • 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Paddle to Hinckley Boat Landing 
  • 1 to 3 p.m. Caribbean Comfort food truck, music, boat demos, and games on the river! 

Registration is by donation—and it comes with a delicious breakfast from The Bankery to fuel your morning adventure!

Bring your own watercraft or borrow (for free!) boats, paddles, and PFDs from the Skowhegan Outdoors Gear Library—we’ll even deliver them right to the launch for you. If you plan to borrow gear, we recommend reserving it ASAP as it's first come, first served. 

Once we paddle our way to Hinckley Boat Landing, the celebration begins! Enjoy music with DJ Eric Lunt, food for purchase from local food truck Caribbean Comfort, lawn games sponsored by Kennebec Savings Bank, and boat demos with Skowhegan Outdoors. Jump into a cornhole tournament with KV Connect, or kick back riverside and soak up the beauty of the Kennebec while you enjoy lunch with friends.

Take a stroll at your own pace along the scenic riverside Debe Trail and enjoy a page-by-page reading of I Met a Moose in Maine One Day by Edward Shankman. This self-guided Story Walk is perfect for families and nature lovers alike. Enjoy a whimsical Maine adventure brought to life in the great outdoors.

Story Walk on the Debe Trail provided by Somerset Public Health

Take a stroll at your own pace along the scenic riverside Debe Trail and enjoy a page-by-page reading of a popular children's book. 

Paint Skowhegan
10 a.m. - 4 p.m. | Various Locations
Registration is now closed! Completed artworks will be exhibited throughout August, with a silent auction running during the show. Visitors can bid and vote for their favorite piece through the “Third Thursday Art Party” on August 21, 4–6 p.m., where votes will be counted. The winner will receive a $100 River Roads gift certificate and two tickets to Main Street Skowhegan’s September 27 gala, where their artwork will be auctioned to benefit Main Street.
